Beautiful, emotive, and vibrantly colourful works of art by Alyson Howard

where nature, imagination, and soul collide on canvas.

Alyson Howard is a contemporary independent artist based in Devon, United Kingdom. Her vibrant oil paintings are a vivid expression of imagination intertwined with the natural world around her. Deeply intuitive in her process, Alyson immerses herself in each piece—meditating, flowing, and allowing the work to emerge from a place of pure subconscious creativity. Her art is more than visual; it is soulful and personal, each painting a fragment of her inner world brought to life.

Original Art Collections

Soul Bathing Collection

The Soul Bathing collection is a series of original paintings inspired by the organic patterns of light, texture, and movement found in the natural world. Each piece is a vibrant exploration of color and rhythm, blending layered textures and intuitive mark-making to capture the ever-changing beauty of trees and flowers.

Created in a contemporary impressionist style, these nature-inspired paintings celebrate the emotional and meditative power of wild spaces. Using a rich mix of tools and techniques, the artist brings each canvas to life—where light dances, shadows shift, and natural forms pulse with quiet energy.

Wild and Free Collection

The Wild and Free collection is a heartfelt tribute to the sea—its raw power, infinite beauty, and meditative rhythm. These original seascape paintings capture the emotional connection between artist and ocean, channeling the freedom, energy, and serenity of coastal landscapes through expressive color and movement.

Created in a contemporary impressionist style, each piece explores the ocean’s hypnotic rhythm and vast horizons using layered textures, fluid brushwork, and a dynamic palette. This modern ocean art invites viewers into a space of reflection and peace, where the sea becomes both a subject and a sanctuary.

Artist Statement

I was born with a thumb in my mouth and a paintbrush in my hand.  My earliest memories are of complicated drawings and lots of crafting. I was created to create. This has always been a battle between what I want to do and what I should be doing in the constructs of career and life. But my art is deeper than that, it is my medicine, my freedom, and my counselor.

In my artist career which has commercially spanned over 30 years, I have sold works to collectors all across the globe. I have worked with interior designers and rolled out 45 of the same painting for a hotel in Birmingham and a series for a leisure centre. My artwork has been produced for homeware and clothing.

In the last few years, I had the honour to work with Buckingham Fine Art Publishers, where my paintings adorned high-end galleries around the country. Unfortunately, in recent I have been battling health conditions and have physical restrictions on the amount of time I can now dedicate to painting, so I am back working as an independent artist balancing my art and my health.

My soul has always yearned to be free. Throughout my life, I’ve resisted the rules and structures that felt like cages—barriers that suppressed my true identity and self-expression. For years, I sought freedom in the external world: traveling to distant places, losing myself in music and movement, chasing fleeting moments of euphoria. But those escapes were temporary, and I always found myself returning to the same emotional place.

Music is my muse juxtaposed with nature. It guides my movement, stirs deep emotion, and evokes waves of natural euphoria through the release of dopamine. Each frequency finds expression through colour, texture, and rhythm on the canvas. My work becomes a visual symphony—a harmonious blend of sound, soul, and spirit—capturing the raw energy of music intertwined with my deep studies of the natural world.

Feeling liberated—from thought, from expectation, from the noise. I painted from a place beyond the mind, engulfed in pure subconscious creativity. These works are not just paintings—they are portals. A visual representation of my subconscious mind, expansive and limitless, inviting the viewer to travel beyond the physical into another dimension.
